WordCamp Vancouver After Party

After a great day of talks, panels and networking, join us for the WordCamp Vancouver After Party. A great chance to talk WordPress with fellow WP enthusiasts in a relaxed setting.

This year, we’ll be hosting the After Party at the Rogue Kitchen and Wetbar in Gastown, just a few minutes walking distance from the WordCamp Vancouver venue.

The party starts at 6pm and the address for the restaurant and bar is 601 W. Cordova St.

Please note that while an I.D. is not required to be present at the after party, the restaurant may require 2 pieces of I.D. if you’re going to be drinking alcohol. Drinking age in B.C. is 19.

Accommodations & Transportation

Hey everyone!

With WordCamp Vancouver (you have your ticket already, right? less than 50 left! hurry up!) fast approaching, we wanted to share some important information with you regarding accommodation and transportation.

As several WordCamp Vancouver speakers, sponsors and attendees will be travelling from out of town, we thought we’d give you a few recommendations for accommodations in our lovely city of Vancouver, as well as transportation information.

Arriving in Vancouver

If you are arriving via air, it’s inexpensive and easy to get from the airport to any Downtown destination taking the Canada Line rapid transit rail link from the airport. In almost all cases the cost from the airport is about $9 and $3 on the way back. Ticketing machines accept bills, coins, debit and credit cards. It takes about 30 minutes to get from the Airport to Downtown. Cabs from the airport to Downtown usually cost about $40 and take about the same time, sometimes longer when there’s bad traffic. Public transit in Vancouver is offered by Translink. Google Maps offers reliable public transit directions.

Hotel Recommendations

We’ve gathered a few hotel recommendations for you:

Sandman Hotel, rooms starting around $160 per night
Lonsdale Quay, rooms starting around $170 per night
Rosedale on Robson, rooms starting around $170 per night
Holiday Inn Vancouver, rooms starting around $175 per night
Hotel Le Soleil, rooms starting around $186 per night
Metropolitan, rooms starting around $229 per night
Opus Boutique Hotel, rooms starting around $270
Fairmont Vancouver, rooms starting around $360 per night

All of these hotels, with the exception of Lonsdale Quay (which is a quick seabus ride away) are within walking distance of the WordCamp venue.

There is also a number of great apartments/rooms for rent on AirBnb, raging from $45 to $250+ per night. While we cannot recommend specific rentals, we’ve heard great things about using AirBnb and do recommend the service as a whole.

Transportation information

As a reminder, the venue for WordCamp Vancouver 2013 is BCIT Downtown Campus located at 555 Seymour Street – Vancouver, V6B 3H6. The venue is in the heart of Downtown Vancouver and within walking distance of several hotels.

We recommend walking, biking or using public transit to get to BCIT Downtown Campus. If you use public transit, please get off at Granville station (using expo/millenium line) or Vancouver City Center (using Canada line).

If you are arriving by car, please note that the BCIT parking lot will be closed on August 17th. There are other public parking lots nearby, notably on Seymour St. Parking on the street may be difficult and/or costly.

We’ve also added a number of recommended activities, restaurants and attractions for out of own attendees. WordCamp Vancouver 2013 Speaker Schedule

This year we received over 35 speaker applications for WordCamp Vancouver. It took several hours of deliberation and a lot of difficult decisions. We could only fit 14 speakers in our two main tracks, so this made it especially difficult to choose when so many great individuals applied. We’ve decided to introduce a third track where we’ll be hosting several shorter talks.

Tickets are now on sale! Buy yours before July 17th for our early bird price of only $20. On July 17th, it goes up to $25. Lunch as well as a drink or two at the after party will be included with every ticket.

Announcing WordCamp Vancouver 2013

We’re super excited to announce that WordCamp Vancouver is back for another edition in 2013. Today we’ve got a number of details to share with you!

WordCamp Vancouver 2013 will be on Saturday August 17th 2013 at BCIT Downtown Campus, in Vancouver.

We’re still planning the event, so some details are still to be confirmed. However, here’s what we can share and ask of you, wonderful WordPress community:

In order to be able to fund WordCamp Vancouver, we need the community’s help. If you’re a WordPress-based business or use WordPress, or just love WordPress, please consider sponsoring WordCamp.
What good would WordCamp be without great presentations? If you’re interested in speaking, please apply! The deadline for speaker submissions is July 3rd.
We need day-of volunteers to help out with all sorts of things; the event just wouldn’t be possible without some smiling faces to give us a little help. Take a look at our volunteering page.
Just looking to attend? Of course you are! We’d love for you to be there :). There will be talks appropriate both for designers/developers and for end-users. Tickets will go on sale on June 17th, at the early-bird ultra-good-deal price of $20. On July 10th, we’ll announce speakers and sponsors; and on July 17th the price will go up to the full price (but still very affordable) of $25. Lunch as well as a drink or two at the after party will be included with every ticket. We’ll have just about 300 tickets for sale and you’ll need to purchase it in advance; no walk-ins this year.
