We’d like to start by thanking our generous sponsors whose financial support made this event possible:

WordCamp Vancouver After Party Takes to the Railway

As the organizer of WordCamp’s after party, I wanted to find a cool, yet funky downtown location with a private-ish room and a good beer list, delicious food and a hip atmosphere. I wanted WordCampers, having been sequestered all day, to have some exposure to local Vancouverites and our city’s storied past.

That’s when I remembered The Railway Club!

I’m not talking about the dingy old Railway Club that opened in 1932 as the 7 Railwayman’s Club, a place where Los Lobos, The Tragically Hip, Blue Rodeo, and Barenaked Ladies have played over the years.

Now it’s the Railway Stage and Beer Cafe reopened in 2016 by the Donnelly Group. The decor is dramatically improved and the beer menu has expanded, and yet the club has retained its old-timey atmosphere and rustic vibe. I think it’s perfect for a bunch of geeks who have been talking code all day.

The Railway Cafe is at 579 Dunsmuir Street at the corner of Seymour. Inside, the club is shaped like a railroad track, long and narrow. There is a game room way in the back where WordCampers can talk tech over hors d’oeuvres and drinks or play a game of billiards or darts. Each attendee receives a free drink ticket.

At 8pm the music starts in the front of the house and we’re all invited to the show!

There are two bands on the bill that night: purveyors of greasy rock n’ roll, Cobra Ramone, and the darkly cinematic The Deep Cove .

So you can talk WordPress all day long, and drink and dance all night long. It will be a day to remember!
