As the organizer of WordCamp’s after party, I wanted to find a cool, yet funky downtown location with a private-ish room and a good beer list, delicious food and a hip atmosphere. I wanted WordCampers,\u00a0having been sequestered all day, to have some exposure to local Vancouverites and our city’s storied past.<\/p>\n

That’s when I remembered\u00a0The Railway Club<\/a>!<\/p>\n

I’m not talking about the dingy old\u00a0Railway Club\u00a0that opened in 1932 as the\u00a07 Railwayman’s Club, a place where\u00a0Los Lobos,\u00a0The Tragically Hip,\u00a0Blue Rodeo, and\u00a0Barenaked Ladies\u00a0have played over the years.<\/p>\n

Now it’s the\u00a0Railway Stage and Beer Cafe\u00a0reopened in 2016 by the Donnelly Group. The decor is dramatically improved and the beer menu has expanded, and yet the club has retained its old-timey atmosphere and rustic vibe. I think it’s perfect for a bunch of geeks who have been talking code all day.<\/p>\n
